Composition

Michael has experience composing in a range of styles, both for the stage and otherwise. Most recently he composed the score for M’Lady, a satirical take on men’s rights activists and pick-up artists. Written alongside Cassandra Tse and James Cain, the show was performed for a sell-out season at BATS Theatre in Wellington and was part of a year’s programme which saw Red Scare Theatre nominated for a Best Newcomer award at the Wellington Theatre Awards.

Prior to M’Lady, Michael’s score for Cassandra Tse’s play Long Ago, Long Ago achieved him a nomination for the The Constance Scott Kirkaldie Award for Outstanding Composer of Music as part of the 2016 Wellington Theatre Awards. Other compositions have included various songs as part of productions by Kapitall Kids Theatre and a portfolio of works for both his masters and undergraduate degrees in music.

The soundtrack for M’Lady can be found on Spotify. Future projects include another collaboration with Cassandra Tse and a suite of his work on Long Ago, Long Ago.
